Codethink, provider of genuinely expert and vendor-independent software engineering, and technical and strategic consultancy, today announced that it has joined Arm Total Design for Physical AI (ATD), a purpose-built ecosystem programme that brings together selected technology partners to build, validate, and scale physical AI solutions on Arm.
The partnership builds on Codethink’s two-decade contribution to Arm’s software ecosystem and aligns both companies around a shared goal: developing safe, reliable real-world systems for autonomous vehicles, robotics, and other autonomous machines. By creating a common language for robotics capabilities and reducing integration risk, the initiative aims to help the entire ecosystem accelerate innovation from silicon to deployment.
Arm and Codethink: Two Decades of Collaboration
Codethink’s relationship with Arm dates back to 2012, when the company built one of the first modern cluster-in-a-box Arm servers to develop and integrate Linux-based system software for clients targeting Arm Systems on Chips (SoCs). Since then, Codethink has helped strengthen open source porting capabilities on Arm hardware and advocated for native compilation on Arm. This work has included a white paper co-authored with Arm on integrating the Arm Software Test Library into the Linux software stack
More recently, Codethink collaborated with Arm and JLR on the Accelerated Software Defined Vehicle (ASTech) Project. This UK Government-funded initiative, delivered under the DRIVE35 programme in partnership with the Advanced Propulsion Centre UK, aims to advance next-generation Software Defined Vehicle (SDV) technologies and strengthen the UK’s leadership in automotive innovation.
Codethink’s current engagement with Arm technology includes consultancy, the ongoing DRIVE35 “shift-left” virtual SoC platform, Arm Cortex-A application processors, Arm Software Test Libraries, Trusted Firmware-A, and the Arm automotive compute platform.
Why Codethink Joined Arm Total Design
“Codethink is proud to build on two decades of contributing to Arm’s software ecosystem and to strengthen our partnership by joining the Total Design for Physical AI project. Like Arm, we’re committed to developing safe, reliable real-world systems for autonomous vehicles, robotics, and other autonomous machines.
Our distinct capabilities in software integration and trustable embedded systems design best position us to help mitigate the risks involved in building autonomous machines. We treat integration as an engineering discipline, delivering complete deployable systems with reliable, reproducible builds, and long-term software maintainability. Together with Arm, we look forward to simplifying the development of optimised technology stacks for physical AI.”
– Paul Sherwood, Chairman, Codethink.
Do You Need Support In Building Autonomous Machines?
Building autonomous machines requires integrating dozens of complex technologies, which can slow development and drive up costs. Codethink treats integration as an engineering discipline in its own right, not an afterthought to development, to ensure systems are reproducible, testable, and ready for deployment. If you need support in building safe, reliable, physical AI, talk to one of our experts.
