Tracker

Tracker is a semantic data store for the desktop and mobile devices. It allows the user to keep track of the data stored on their devices and online sources and extract relationships in an automated fashion. Codethink has been driving this project forward by implementing W3C standards such as RDF ontologies and SPARQL queries while improving the overall performance.

Vala

Vala is a new programming language based on C# that is designed to allow access to existing C libraries, specifically GObject based libraries, without the need for runtime bindings. The Vala compiler allows developers to write complex object-oriented code rapidly while maintaining a standard C API and ABI and keeping the memory requirements low. Codethink currently employs the lead developer, Jürg Billeter.

Assistive Technology Service Provider Interface

Assistive Technology Service Provider Interface (AT-SPI) is a toolkit-neutral way of providing accessibility information in applications by the GNOME project. AT-SPI enabled toolkits provide a logical representation of the content of the application. Helpful assistants like screen readers or magnifiers can then allow disabled persons to browse and interact with the applications. Codethink has been developing an AT-SPI port from CORBA to D-Bus to improve performance.

dconf, gconf & gsettings

dconf is a generic configuration storage system, based on GLib, designed to serve as a back end for high level configuration APIs. gsettings is a new GObject based API that uses D-Bus as its notification system. It's aimed at replacing gconf, the current CORBA based configuration API for GNOME. Codethink employs Ryan Lortie, the current lead developer of gsettings and dconf.

GNOME Project

Codethink is involved in many areas of the GNOME project and is currently helping in the deprecation of CORBA based technologies in GNOME 3.0 through the development of AT-SPI2, Dconf and GSettings, the development of Gtk+ 3.0 and supporting the server infrastructure by providing resources for system administration.

Gtk+ 3.0

Gtk+, the GNOME cross platform toolkit to develop user interfaces, is currently on its way to the 3.0 release. One of the many areas where improvements are needed is the current theming API. Codethink currently employs Alberto Ruiz, one of the members of the development team responsible for the design and implementation of the new theming API.

Daily Catchup

Daily Catchup is a simple application designed to bring together all of your social networking data into one convenient and easily accessible location and to then store that data for off-line use. The technology behind it combines some of the innovations developed by Codethink Ltd upon the GNOME Mobile and Moblin platforms. The interface itself is touch ready. We have built a small subset of touch screen oriented widgets on top of Clutter, the accelerated graphics engine for the Moblin platform developed by Intel. Codethink has been researching the area of single and multi-touch devices and how to expose these new interaction models to user interface toolkits. Daily Catchup is built on top of Tracker, the open source semantic database for embedded devices. Until now Tracker has mostly been used to index and store metadata about your personal documents. We have taken this further and developed a collection of data providers to import Twitter, Facebook and Flickr streams into the Tracker data store so that applications can access this data seamlessly. These data providers are able to gather data from any social network or useful source of structured data and store it in a structured fashion. Daily Catchup empowers a framework designed to be easily bind-able to high level languages. The whole application is written in Javascript which enables easy prototyping and deployment of applications built on top of our framework. One of our aims is to allow developers to make the most of our technologies within their favoured programming languages.
