OSiM a Great Success

Back in September Codethink went out to Amsterdam for the Open Source in Mobile conference. Other than meeting new people and making some promising new contacts, the main focus of the trip was the unveiling of their latest internal research and development project, Daily Catchup. Daily Catchup is a simple application designed to bring together all of your social networking data into one convenient and easily accessible location and to then store that data for off-line use. The benefits of this, on a mobile device especially, are extremely appealing. Air travel for example greatly limits the use of your mobile. The obvious lack of an internet connection has previously made catching up with all of your social contacts recent activities impossible. The beauty of Daily Catchup is that whenever an internet connection is present, all of your data is automatically updated. Once you get on a plane, and inevitably have to switch to airport mode, data pulled from sites such as Facebook, Twitter and Flickr is there to browse at your leisure. The demo itself was extremely well received and generated a great deal of interest. It drew a lot of attention to the possibilities of Tracker in particular and the idea of using it for something more than simply indexing and storing metadata about your personal documents. More information about the underlying technology of Daily Catchup can be found here.

Codethink at OSiM

The Open Source in Mobile (OSiM) World conference will be taking place from the 15th to the 16th of September in Amsterdam and Codethink are going to be there. Now in it's fourth year, OSiM World will bring together the entire open source community to discuss, debate, and plan for the future of the industry. This year the conference will feature over eighty leading thinkers of the open source world. Companies from the mobile industry and beyond such as Nokia, Samsung, T-mobile, Google, Amazon, LiMo, GNOME, The Linux Foundation and even the New York Times to name but a few. There will be multiple networking events, late night coding sessions and a vibrant and bustling exhibition floor featuring the very latest content and demo's from a myriad of companies including ourselves. This really is the place to be for anyone involved within the open source community in 2009.
